How To Half Double Crochet

Learning to crochet is fun. It can also be overwhelming because there are so many stitches to learn and so many projects to make. I think besides the single crochet stitch the half double crochet stitch is the easiest to learn.

Once you choose your crochet hook size, type of yarn an the crochet stitch you will use you are all ready to start a project. In order to create the half double crochet stitch, you make a slip knot. Place the hook in the loop. Create the number of chains you need for the project. Begin your first row of half double crochet. Pick up the yarn. You have one loop. Wrap yarn so there is now two loops on the hook. Place hook into the stitch of the row you are working in. Pick up yarn. Pull through the hole or stitch. Pick up yarn. Now there are four loops on the hook. Pull three loops through the last loop. Now only one loop is left and you have made your first half double crochet. Continue doing this until your project is through.

The easiest way to get familiar with a stitch is to make a blanket or scarf. Make sure the project is easy enough so you can do that same stitch for every row through the whole project. It will help you to learn the stitch well and create a nice project or gift easily.
